Part 1 — The website
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies last one year.
If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last two days, and screen options cookies last a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login persists for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies are removed.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images, or articles. Embedded content from other websites behaves in exactly the same way as if the visitor had visited the other website. Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.
How long we retain website data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so that we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. For users who register on the website, we store the personal information they provide in their user profile. Users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time, except that they cannot change their username. Administrators can also see and edit that information.
Your rights over website data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Part 2 — Jet Read (iOS and Android)
Jet Read is a speed-reading training app. This section describes exactly what the app collects.
Information you give us
Account information. Jet Read uses Sign in with Apple as its only sign-in method, brokered by our authentication provider, Clerk. When you sign in we receive and store a Clerk user identifier, your name, your email address, and the sign-in method used. If you use Apple’s Hide My Email feature, we receive only the relay address Apple generates, never your real address.
Profile and leaderboard information. We store a display name and an optional avatar image that you choose. Your display name and your reading statistics appear on the in-app leaderboard and are visible to other Jet Read users. If you do not want that, choose a display name that does not identify you.
Reading activity. We store a record of each reading session: the title of the text you read, the number of words read, your average words per minute, and your comprehension score if you took the quiz. We also store aggregate progress such as your current level, total words read, best and average speed, daily streak, and completed texts.
Reports and suggestions. If you report a problem with a reading challenge or submit a feature suggestion, we store the text you write. Feature suggestions may be submitted without an account attached.
Imported documents (Pro). If you import a PDF into Challenge Mode, the file is sent to our server once, its text is extracted and returned to your device, and nothing is kept: the document is processed transiently and is not stored, logged, or shared. TXT and Markdown files never leave your device — they are read locally. The extracted text lives only on your device.
Information stored only on your device
Your app settings, including theme and reading speed preferences, are stored locally. Reading reminders are scheduled locally on your device by the operating system. Jet Read does not operate a push notification server and does not collect a push token.
What Jet Read does not collect
- Jet Read contains no analytics SDK. We do not use Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or any comparable product.
- Jet Read contains no crash-reporting or diagnostics SDK. We do not use Crashlytics or Sentry. Apple and Google may provide us with aggregated, anonymized crash and performance data through App Store Connect and Google Play Console; we cannot identify you from it.
- We do not collect your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA or AAID) and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. Jet Read does not present the App Tracking Transparency prompt because it has nothing to ask permission for.
- We never receive, see, or store your payment card details. All purchases are handled by Apple or Google.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Advertising in Jet Read
The free tier of Jet Read shows occasional full-screen interstitial advertisements supplied by Google AdMob. Jet Read requests non-personalized ads only. Non-personalized ads are targeted using general context such as approximate location derived from IP address and the content of the app itself, rather than a profile of your past behavior. Google still processes limited data, including your IP address and coarse device information, to serve and measure these ads and to detect fraud. See Google Business Data Responsibility and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Subscribing to Jet Read Premium removes advertising and stops the ad requests.
Subscriptions
Jet Read offers auto-renewing subscriptions. Purchases are processed by Apple or Google. We use RevenueCat to determine whether your subscription is active and to unlock premium features. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user identifier and the purchase receipt issued by the app store. It does not receive your name or email address from us.
Who we share Jet Read data with
- Clerk — authentication and account management.
- RevenueCat — subscription entitlement management.
- Google AdMob — non-personalized advertising in the free tier.
- Apple and Google — app distribution and payment processing.
- Our hosting and database providers — storage of your account and reading data.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so, where it is necessary to investigate fraud or protect the safety of our users, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case the acquiring party remains bound by this policy.
Where Jet Read data is stored, and for how long
Your account and reading data are stored on servers in the United States and are encrypted in transit. If you use Jet Read from outside the United States, you are consenting to that transfer. We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your account record, profile, and reading history are deleted from our database, and backup copies are overwritten within 30 days.
Deleting your Jet Read account
You can delete your account and all associated data from inside the app. Open the Profile tab, scroll to the bottom, and tap Delete Account. This is immediate and cannot be undone.
If you cannot access the app, email support@builtbycraig.online from the address on your account and we will delete it for you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or receive a copy in a portable format. You can exercise the access and deletion rights directly in the app, or contact us at support@builtbycraig.online. We respond within 30 days. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal bases for processing are performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and funding the free tier through advertising, and your consent where required.
Children
Our website and apps are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information or created an account, email support@builtbycraig.online and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects your rights, we will give notice in the app before it takes effect.
